Hunk du Jour Interviews
So over the Easter weekend I was busy with some work and of course hanging out with my family, so today's Hunk of the Day is named by my decree instead of the usual public vote. (I think you'll indulge me this once when you see who I've chosen to kick off our week.)
Mark MacKillop is a quadruple threat... actor, singer, dancer, and (of course) stunning male model. (He's also from the Pacific Northwest, Vancouver BC, which is particularly endearing to this Seattle boy.)
Mark is currently on tour with West Side Story in Munich -- you have just the rest of his week to see him perform before he returns to New York City. Today we celebrate him with an exclusive interview, and a gallery of his Munich Hotel Room Selfies.
CHRIS: What's your favorite moment when performing in West Side Story?
MARK: When we bow and the lights come up, and I get to see the faces in the audience... it's nice getting to see who's been watching us.
There are always performances that seem to go a little sideways... any recent wild/wacky performances? What happened?
Well a week ago...
Please welcome Noah Schuffman to Hunk du Jour! He's one of the stars of eCupid -- a movie making the festival rounds. (Special Valentine's screening this weekend in the UK at Riverside Studios -- check it out!)
He was nice enough to answer our questions about himself and eCupid -- let's see what he had to say!
Christopher Michael, Hunk du Jour: How did you hear about eCupid and how did you end up getting involved in the project?
Noah Schuffman, eCupid: I saw that breakdown on actors access (a website for actors that lists auditions) and thought that it was an intriguing project.
HDJ: How would you describe your character in three sentences?
Noah: Gabe is a very focused and optimistic person. He tends to get tunnel vision when focused on something but always has good intentions. He is a dedicated man and a hopeless romantic at heart.
Please welcome to the blog Adam Jacobs, who kicked off previews this week at 5th Avenue Theatre of Aladdin - a world premiere musical destined for the bright lights of Broadway.
Adam was nice enough to chat with us a little about his experience as an actor, working on a world premiere show, and how he keeps his sometimes-long-distance relationship strong when jobs take him on the road... check it all out!
Christopher Michael, Hunk du Jour: This isn't your first role in a Disney musical, did your appearance as grown-up Simba in The Lion King give you some Disney street cred that helped you land the part of Aladdin?
Adam Jacobs: Playing "Simba" in The Lion King definitely helped me get the role of "Aladdin." After seeing my performance, the heads of Disney Theatricals thought I'd be right for it and brought me in for a workshop. At the time I didn't even know it was in the works so it was quite a surprise to get that call. That went well enough that they decided to go ahead with the current production in Seattle. I also had played Cinderella's "Prince" in the national tour a while back so that might've added to the Disney street cred too.
Joining us for a Q&A is the handsome Houston Rhines, star of eCupid which will be screened at Outfest in Los Angeles on July 11th at the Director's Guild of America. Showtime is @ 9:30pm, but get there early for good seats.
Check out what Houston has to say about life, love, and making a movie!
Hunk du Jour: How did you hear about eCupid and how did you end up getting involved in the project?
Houston Rhines: The director, JC Calciano tells the story about how he was so impressed with me at an audition for his earlier film "IS IT JUST ME?" that he kept my video on file for the future. If that's the case, I'm flattered. He called me and asked me to audition, he sent me the script and I loved the message within the film. So I agreed to be in it, plus he promised he would let me keep a sexy pair of teal underwear I have to wear in pool scene at the end of the movie.
Hunk du Jour: What gigs does Vintage Youth have lined up for Pride Season?
Giulio Pellcoolj: We have two appearances coming up for Seattle PrideFest. We'll be part of the Hard Times takeover of the PrideFest DJ Stage and then immediately afterward we head over to the Main stage. I'm very excited to be part of the Hard Times/Qulture Qreative crew and to play alongside DJ L.A. Kendall. We recently played a fashion show fundraiser in support of 3 Dollar Bill Cinema for the Run and Walk with Pride.
Sunday at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will once again mount their much-anticipated production each year... Broadway Bares!
As a show of thanks for extraordinary support for Mo and BROADWAY CARES, Mo will send everyone donating over $100 a signed photograph from the entire cast of his number! Donate $500 or more and there is a fabulous and personal surprise that awaits you... but you'll have to make the donation to find out exactly what.
Even if you don't throw a benjamin into Mo's virtual briefs, donors of any amount will get a fantastic high-resolution copy of the image below of Mo & his crew. Forward your donation confirmation e-mail to email@example.com and it is yours!
Hunk du Jour: For the two or three readers out there who have never heard of BROADWAY BARES give us the low-down... what is BROADWAY BARES all about?
Mo Brady: BROADWAY BARES is one of the biggest yearly fundraisers for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). The show is like Broadway's version of a Burlesque show, with over 200 of the New York theatre communities fiercest performers strutting their stuff, and all the proceeds going to BC/EFA.
MB: Each year, the show revolves around a theme. And this year, BROADWAY BARES: MASTERPIECE is a strip show centered around great works of art. On June 19, two fun and crazy performances will be given for thousands at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan. I am told that the shows always sell out, so people should get tickets early!
Rockstar chef Nadia G. and her cohorts may tear it up in the kitchen on Cooking Channel's Bitchin' Kitchen (Wednesdays at 10:30pm ET), but we watch for Hans. This perennially-shirtless, beefed up, and oiled down sidekick knows his food.
Hans (real name: Bart Rochon) took a break between sets to dish with the Hunk du Jour team about working with Nadia, how he keeps in such fantastic shape, and what he loves so much about chocolate. Check out our Q&A below!
Troy, Hunkologist: Obviously, working with Nadia, you know a lot about how important food is to being a hunk. What's a typical menu for you on any given day?
Hans: Food is extremely important when trying to maintain a stellar physique. I like to vary my food as much as possible to avoid boredom... this helps me avoid 5 day binges which inevitably find me waking up on my couch with a tub of fried chicken, mounds of burger wrappers and soft ice cream melted all over my face.
Although the foods change in my daily diet, the basic rules stay the same: I try to eat every 3 to 4 hours, usually about 6 times a day. I consume 20 to 30 grams of protein in every meal, and I am careful to limit my sugars and starches.
Occupation: Game test analyst at Sony Computer Entertainment and activist extraordinaire
You can catch Matthew on The Tester: Season 2 reunion special (Tuesday on PlayStation Network or online soon via the official site or Crackle.com), but why wait? We talk to him about his experience on a reality show, his active role in the San Diego gay community, and his secret video game crush.

Christopher, Lead Hunkologist: Where did you grow up? What kind of things did you like to do when you are younger?
Daniel Villa: I grew up in Bogota, which is the capital of Colombia. I had a very active childhood. My dad was a race car driver so I grew up on a race track. I became a BMX Racer at 5 years old, then I started doing motocross and Kart racing. I played soccer, went rollerblading, Rock climbing, running... I never stopped. I was very hyper and I had an amazing group of friends.
Signing songs from Britney and Gaga, Chase originally caught our eye with his outstanding versions of music videos where he both dances and interprets the songs in sign langugage. Since then he was featured in last year's Broadway Bares show, and now he's getting his own music off the ground!
Chase will perform in Times Square this Sunday at 8:00PM, so get tickets and more information.
Chris M, Lead Hunkologist: Hey Chase, welcome back to Hunk du Jour! So I hear that you've been up to a lot since we last chatted, so it's time to settle in and get the scoop! The hunk-lovers out there probably remember you best as "that sign language music video guy!"
Chase: Thank you, Chris! Haha, that's true. It's become my middle name.
Chris M, Lead Hunkologist: And names are something that might be tough for people to keep track of for you as well... since your YouTube channel has since been through a few of them. Where can folks find your YouTube channel now?
Chase: Oh, man. You're telling me. To make it easiest, they can go to www.officialchase.com, there is a video section that holds all of them! It's even broken into segments, singing and signing.
Chris M, Lead Hunkologist: Hehe - so whatever the channel name of the week is, we can find you there! From your YouTube roots you are starting to branch out in a few new directions too -- including a little project around this time last year called Broadway Bares?
Chase: Yeah, Broadway Bares was great. I was in a number called Football Fantasy. All the money goes to HIV/AIDS research. It was a lot of fun dancing with the guys, being on stage with them, and for such a good cause.

Toby Madigan is and up-and-coming recording artist who is getting involved and coming out for marriage equality. His song Stand for Love is one of four finalists in the Equality Song contest for the October 11th National Equality March.
Chris M, Lead Hunkologist: How big of a culture shock has it been moving from Michigan to Los Angeles?
Toby Madigan: I grew up in Michigan, but I went to high school and college near Toledo, OH, which was a fairly decent-sized city, so I'm not a total country boy, but LA is way different than anything in the Midwest, that's for sure.
Toby Madigan: First of all, we have seasons . . . but who's complaining? It's basically the weather they die for where I am from every day in LA.
Toby Madigan: I would say the biggest cultural shocks were positive ones. There is much more diversity in LA and it seems like a place where everyone is following some kind of dream or passion. Of course, with that comes a little bit of ambition and self-centeredness that you can sometimes run into, but it's much more exciting and much more open-minded.
Toby Madigan: The only thing I miss is the spaciousness and fresh air . . . oh yeah, and the leaves, I love the fall leaves back home . . .

Meet my friend Andrew Nichols, the subject of our very first photo shoot exclusively for Hunk du Jour! Matthew Browning caught these exclusive photos of Andrew as we wandered around West Seattle.
Chris M, Hunk du Jour: So tell me a little about yourself - where'd you grow up?
Andrew Nichols: I was born in Portland, OR, spent my first 10 years in Vancouver, WA and then lived on Whidbey Island until I was 18.
Chris M, Hunk du Jour: So your tween and teen years were all on Whidbey Island -- what was growing up there like?
Andrew Nichols: I grew up in the small town of Freeland, WA and although my large extended family was well known on the south end of the Island I often felt like a loner. Possibly because my extended family was very religious and their religion never set well with me.
Check out our interview after the jump! Luke answers some of our questions about the new show, plus you can watch the first episode and a trailer right from our article.
