Enlarge PhotoLast weekend my partner made some adorable rubber duckie cupcakes, so sweets have been on my mind all week! So perhaps it was perfect that photographer Dean Stockings sent over these photos of Dominic Nel just a day or two later!
I asked him about the shoot, and here's how he replied:
I'd seen Dominic around on various websites and blogs and had had my eye on him for a while, so it was great to be asked to shoot with him for the current issue of reFRESH (the Design issue). Dominic had also been aware of my work for some time, and he was also really pleased to be working together.My reaction on arriving at Parklife to collect the cakes was "Wow!"... I then needed reassurance from Bev (who had lovingly made the cakes), that she wouldn't be offended if I smashed all her hard work up during the shoot!
The first part of the session took place at a friends house in Brighton (UK) - Sue had lots of decorative cake stands and a glass table to arrange them on, which was perfect for the shots in the suit. However, Sue panicked slightly (her dining room was freshly decorated) when I said I then wanted to trash all the cakes and cover the wall and Dominic with them, who at that point, would be naked! So for the next part, Dominic and I headed over to Worthing to my studio, where we could get as messy as we liked without having to worry! We stopped off at the supermarket to buy some fresh cream on the way...
It seemed criminal to throw the cakes (which were like works of art) at Dom and the wall, but we knew the shots would be worth it, and lets face it, we had SO MUCH FUN! And luckily, we were able to have a little nibble between shots... DELICIOUS!
