Occupation: TV Production
When he was recently featured here as part of Friday TPiR, a commenter called Steven "Nerdy-Hot" -- he's certainly rocking out the geek chic! We talk to Steven about his life-long dream, and how Drew Carey fit into that picture.
Troy, Hunkologist: So, first things first... you ended up on The Price is Right. How did that happen?
Steven Raff: Well, it has been my dream forever to go to The Price is Right and be on it. After about 22 years of waiting until I finally did. I ended up moving to LA on January 18th, and on the the 19th, my friend and I grabbed tickets to see the show. I forced my friend to wait outside the night before starting at 11:45pm - that way we could be in the front row. I wanted to be first, but some other guy beat us by around 5 mins and we ended up being #2 and #3.
Troy, Hunkologist: So, you show up, sit down, the show starts, and.....
Steven Raff: I hyperventilate. Well, sort of. I got called down first which blew me away, and it was all just amazing, jumping for joy knowing that I'm going to be on the show now and could win some fabulous prizes.
Steven Raff: I became best friends with the person next to me - with all the hugging we were doing as we were waiting for the others to come down - and it was just pure craziness! We have since become Facebook friends, and we chat once in awhile.
Troy, Hunkologist: Wait, wait. You "one dollared" her! She bid $830 for an item, and then you bid $831!
Steven Raff: I did. BUT - what the show didn't show - was that I apologized right after. I'd say she did pretty well with me "dollaring" her by getting to play Plinko.
Troy, Hunkologist: Well now, you have a $2500 shuffleboard table.
Steven Raff: Yes! And I can't wait for it to come so I can play!
Troy, Hunkologist: So, you get up on stage, and....
Steven Raff: Well I'd like to say that I stayed pretty composed the whole time. BUT that would be a complete lie.
Steven Raff: It was a dream come true so I just felt the need to hug Drew. I guess that feeling just didn't end for a little while. I was again savoring the moment, and I knew if I let go, the moment would go away sooner and I didn't want that to happen.
Troy, Hunkologist: All over a shuffleboard table!
Steven Raff: Ha! The prizes didn't even matter to me - I was at The Price is Right! I was on stage! I made it! Growing up, anyone who knew me knew it was my dream to be on that show. How many people can say that their dreams have come true?
Troy, Hunkologist: 17 seconds for the hug, BTW.
Steven Raff: Drew was really nice about it too! He asked if I was ok and everything and I was, I was just in the moment and overcome, and didn't really know what to do. He's just a very warm and nice guy which is really nice and there was no pressure for him at any point.
Troy, Hunkologist: And in 10 years, you two are going to wrestle!
Steven Raff: I sure hope so! I want his job!
Troy, Hunkologist: So, going back to Switch - eh, not such a good Switch. Did the audience talk you into it?
Steven Raff: They did. Everyone - including my friend was telling me to Switch. My gut feeling was to not switch, but oh well.
Troy, Hunkologist: But that's OK, 'cause you got to spin the wheel!
Steven Raff: I was probably the most mellow contestant in Price is Right history after hitting the dollar. I should have showed at least a little excitement right?
Troy, Hunkologist: Is the carpet comfortable?
Steven Raff: Actually, it really is! All of the feelings that I had when I went up on stage and got called down had come back - and I was overjoyed, and overcome. The money didn't even matter. I just knew that holy crap -I GOT A $1.00. As much as I loved Crystal - I didn't want her to get a $1.00.
Troy, Hunkologist: She got $11,000 on Plinko. That's good enough. So, showcases come up... and you get... appliances / a trip to NYC / a trip to London?
Steven Raff: Yeah funny thing - I lived in NYC for 4 months. We had joked while waiting in line, if I get to the showcases, that I'd be offered a trip to NYC.
Steven Raff: The one thing that truly excited me in the showcase was the trip to London. I was really excited about London because I've never been there, and I've always wanted to. I've been very blessed in my life to have a family that's traveled. I've been to the Caribbean but I've never been to London.
Troy, Hunkologist: Let's talk about Steven... where are you originally from?
Steven Raff: I'm from Rochester, NY. Lived there my entire life up until two days before being on the Price is Right.
Troy, Hunkologist: Why the move to LA?
Steven Raff: To try and find a job in TV Production. I left my full time job at Apple to look for employment out in Hollywood.
Troy, Hunkologist: Following your dreams!
Steven Raff: I'm very passionate about game shows. Always have been!
Troy, Hunkologist: What are some of your faves? (besides, obviously, TPiR)
Steven Raff: Lets Make A Deal, Press Your Luck, $100,000 Pyramid... the list could keep on going. I'm also a very big reality show fan, so I'd include Survivor, Big Brother, and Amazing Race in there.
Steven Raff: Really, my favorite is The Price is Right. It's my dream to host it one day. My idol is Bob Barker, and the past two Halloweens, both of my costumes have been from The Price is Right. The first time I was Bob Barker, and this past Halloween I was a contestant.
Troy, Hunkologist: So, outside of watching TPiR (and other game shows), what else do you do for fun?
Steven Raff: Well I enjoy having a very active social life. I enjoy getting together with friends, going to bars, clubs, coffee shops, bowling. All the usual stuff that a 22 year old gay male should be doing.
Troy, Hunkologist: What's on the DVR/iPod right now?
Steven Raff: Right now, I believe my episode of The Price is Right is on there, I was also apparently on Web Soup, so that's on there, LOST, Survivor, Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Better Off Ted, Brothers and Sisters. I can't wait for V to come back!
Troy, Hunkologist: Are you normally that happy bouncy fun in real life?
Steven Raff: I'm a person who loves to have fun! I don't let things get me down and I feel that any closed door leads me to another one thats going to be open. I'm just very optimistic and fun and nice and I really try to make the best out of any situation that's out there.
Troy, Hunkologist: What's the one thing a guy can do to get Steven to go "HEY!"?
Steven Raff: Show me their abs! Seriously, I'm very picky when it comes to dating guys. I look for the full package and I really won't settle for anything thats less than that. I don't believe in settling for anything!
Troy, Hunkologist: What is Steven going to be doing in 2015? 2020?
Steven Raff: Well, in 2015, hopefully working in developing game shows and making some of my own come on air.
Troy, Hunkologist: How long have you been in LA? What do you love / not like so much about it?
Steven Raff: It has almost been two months. I love that there is NO SNOW! The weather is honestly amazing along with the scenery I've never gotten to live anywhere as beautiful as it is here.
Troy, Hunkologist: It's a certainly different city than Rochester.
Steven Raff: Definitely! I knew everyone in Rochester, and now, I don't know that many people.
Troy, Hunkologist: Is this (working in TV) something you've been wanting to do all your life?
Steven Raff: Yes ever since I was out of the womb I've wanted to do game shows. Growing up, I never wanted to be a fireman, or an astronaut or a doctor... anytime anyone asked me what I wanted to do, I always said I wanted to be a game show host.
Troy, Hunkologist: Anything else you want to share with our audience?
Steven Raff: I guess I'd just say I hope everyone enjoyed my appearance as much as I did! It really was the time of my life. Other than that, I'm single!
