How would you describe the sound of your music?
I'd just describe us as Americana. Americana seems to be the umbrella that everyone from Dylan to Springsteen to early Wilco to Kris Kristofferson fall under, and that's a pretty diverse group, but to me it just means American rock n roll.
What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I was a big fan of the Allman Brothers and Clapton, but I loved Helmet and Tool as well. And like most teenagers I went through a jam band phase. Pretty much everything.
What instruments do you play? Do you write all your own songs?
I play the guitar, the plectrum banjo, and the cello primarily, and I do indeed write all my songs.
How excited were you to see Franklin Ave. on itunes?
If you had to pick just one song for people to listen to off Franklin Ave, which would be your pick?
Golden Opportunity or Under Christmas Lights
I'm a fan of the song "Years" on your MySpace page, but it is not on Franklin Ave. When/where can we find that song?
Just search for St. James Inc in iTunes, it's on an EP called "8 Hours"
How is life different for you being a solo artist compared to the time you spent with St. James Inc?
Pretty much the same, except more expensive having to pay your players. I wrote all the tunes in St. James, so the day to day is the same.
What are your plans for 2009? What are you most looking forward to in the next 12 months.
Going to South-by Southwest, touring in Europe, completing our video, and hopefully turning some more heads.
