Name: Jeremy Ritz
Stats: 29 / 5'6" / 130 lbs
Residence: New York City
Relationship Status: Single
On Mondays we meet new people -- on the business end of our questions today is Jeremy Ritz from New York City!
First question, as always: what are you wearing as we speak?
Jeans, a white tank top & my rosary beads.
Rosary beads? What's the story behind them?
They are made of hematite and were a gift from Rio De Janerio. Hematite is a healing stone, it happens that they cascade down my esophagus - which has issues.
Though I don't believe the in the Catholic version of them, the are a reminder to me of the existence of God. I wear them every day.
Are you a New York native?
I consider myself one, but i was an Air Force brat. I grew up mostly in upstate NY, but have lived in NYC since 1999
What makes NYC so special for you?
It really is the apex of my passion - theatre. I also like the pace, liveliness and friendliness of this city. It really has an amazing undying spirit.
Tell me about your theatre passions... I know you love theatre as well as being in the theatre. What are your favorite shows?
The show that completely mesmerized me was Rent. Listening to that show as a newly gay teen in Fayetteville NY, I knew I had to get to the big city. I also grew up listening to a lot of the classics & bigger hits of the 80's like Phantom & Les Miz.
My favorite shows - it's so hard to pick just a few... Rent, Sunday In the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, Violet, The Last 5 Years....i could go on and on.
If you could be cast in any show.... ?
Mark in RENT, although it closed. If I had to pick from what's on B'way now, I'd say Mortiz in Spring Awakening. [Ed: Spring Awakening just announced it will be closing in Jan. Boo!]
What do you look for in a guy?
For me, it's all about the eyes & the smile. It's even better when there's a good mind behind them - someone with passion for something.
What's on your DVR / iPod?
The only shows I watch are The Closer and True Blood.
My iPod has over 8 thousand songs on it! Lately I've been listening to As I Am - Alicia Keys (great album), but I range from opera to country, to rap to metal to of course Britney & a lot of Madonna
I understand you've made a big turnaround in your life from, say, 3-4 years ago.
I have. I decided almost 18 months ago to quit drinking
I'm sure it's been hard.
There are days, but even on the hardest of days, I know I have a choice and that it will all work out. I didn't know that 2 years ago. My worst day sober is still better than any day I had drinking.
What does Jeremy do on his day off?
What day off? Usually laundry, cleaning; I usually have catering gigs on the weekends.
What is Jeremy going to be doing in 5 years? 10?
In 5 years, I would like to have performed in at least 1 Broadway show, be living on my own (not with a roommate) and have almost 7 years sober. In 10 years, I'd like to be still on Broadway... maybe do a movie, maybe have found a husband - still living in New York.
What did you first think when I asked you if you'd do a feature for HunkDuJour.com ?
I was excited and honored.
