I signed up to participate in Blog Action Day because (like their website says) I think that blogs of all genres have something to say about climate change and that Hunk du Jour can take some moments outside of our normal genre to help inform. (They didn't seem to agree, though, as we never showed up on the acknowledged participant list.)
We're putting aside our distaste for being disregarded, though, and will be donating our ad revenues from today (a minimum $100) to The Nature Conservancy. I encourage you to visit the Blog Action Day site, as well as other participating sites.

That's a relly cool thing for you to do - in spite of the arrogance of the blog action day people. I totally respect you for that.
Good for you! To show my support for your blog, I sent the organizer a nasty little email. I think everybody who reads this blog, and appreciates what you do should do the same.
Here's a copy of what I sent:
I just wondered if you are the arrogant idiot who thinks its acceptable to keep some blogs from participating in blog action day because you don't care for their content. After hearing about this issue I visited the blog: Hunk du Jour. So its a gay blog, big deal! Where does anybody get off telling them their participation is not desired? If they can help reach people and make them aware of ANY issue thats deemed important, more power to them. How many of the blogs that are participating would be willing to help if they know that the organizers are letting their homophobia curtail participation from well intentioned blogs? Maybe this is another issue that should be taken up during blog action day!

And here' sthe answer I got!
Hi Scott,
Thanks for writing in, actually we had quite a lot of gay blogs involved I know because I approved them, I would guess that much more likely is that the blog mistyped their URL when registering. We have had almost 20,000 blogs to look through and unfortunately that doesn't leave much time for fixing broken links in the registration form, so I know that we didn't approve at least a couple of hundred mistyped registrants.
Anyhow I hope there hasn't been too much upset, please let the owners of any blogs you know of see this email. In fact I live in one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world - Sydney! - and we would never think to reject blogs based on discrimination.
Thanks,
Collis
PS It crosses my mind that in addition you should know there are currently 3200 blogs awaiting approval that were registered in the last 12 hours, we're going through them as quickly as possible, but of course blogs are welcome to post regardless of whether the admin basics have occurred on our site,

Wow -- thanks for the enthusiasm, Scott. It's really appreciated, however I don't think we need to start a letter-writing campaign against these folks (they're just trying to coordinate and raise an issue.)
I guess what I was expecting was to be included in their list of the tens of thousands of participants, and that if there were some issue of content that we'd at least get an e-mail rejection or notification. (Fact is, we're still making a name for ourselves -- and to get over any stigma that may exist about our little corner of the internet.)
More so, I'm just disappointed that it took the wind out of my sails about the Blog Action Day so I ended up doing less than I originally wanted... I really believed that blogs of any genre have something to contribute. If they did some approval based on content, I think they just erred on the side of being too cautious this time.
But ya know what -- forget all of that... it's really not what today is/was about. Climate change is a real issue that is going to be getting a lot more attention, and I'm sure that The Nature Conservancy will put our Benjamin to good use.
