Sexy Gerard Butler

People go nuts over Gerard Butler! He's got a large (and ravenous) fan base and a suprisingly long list of screen credits. He starred opposite Hunk du Jour favorite Rodrigo Santoro in the film 300, where he played King Leondias.

I can't believe anyone even remotely gay is still pumping up that racist homophobic piece of trash movie, 300. You know, sometimes what a movie is saying is more important that the fact that some pretty men are showing their CG'd pecs and abs...and THAT movie makes gays and people of color into evil degenerate warmongers out to turn white straight men into their slaves. It's vile.

What does everyone else think?

I have to claim ignorance here, as I haven't seen the movie (hence just a mention of the title and no commentary on the film.)

I'll defer any arguments as to the content or worth of the film to Augusto over at Queer Beacon (where he has posted a review addressing some of your issues with the film) - but luckily this post is about Gerard Butler, with just a footnote about the film.

(You'll also notice I didn't even manage to put one of the film photos in here.)

Thank-you for commenting!

Thanks for the pics. Butler in his swim trunks - yummm. He's just very handsome.

As far as the pic is concerned, blame the graphic novel of the same name. The positive aspect of the film is its obvious historical inaccuracies, and this should promp people to read about the Spartans, the battle depicted, and the Persian empire. Like many Hellenic cultures, the Spartans weren't 100% straight.

300 is a good movie.
People should open their eyes before saying is "against" this and that and remember is a fiction movie about a comic about a legendary fact of history: thus talking about "historic accuracies" is ridiculous.
I don't see any correlation to homosexuality: as for the Xerxes character, I think it is perfect. Xerxes was considered a God, thus is beyond sexuality, that's why it is depicted as a 3 meters tall drag queen with an hell of a deep voice.
Spartans soldiers aren't showed as having sex one another as they used to? Come on, you cannot expect that in a movie about war and heroic legend!

I liked the film (and the male fleshfest). My point was that the film does provide some excellent educational opportunities because most of it isn't historically accurate. Then again, most films about ancient Greece and Rome aren't accurate, no matter how well made.

The movie and the graphic novel may both be grossly inaccurate but we need to remember that history, as is always, is written from only one side of view so inaccuracies are bound to be there. The movie on the other hand is excellent as it's visual style is lush and unusual. The 300 pecs, abs and leather man panties makes it extremely worthwhile too. not too mention Leonidas's nude scene where we get to see his massive muscular thighs.

uh, 300 was great it was made out of a comic book, the same man who made Sin City. and no it is not homophobic, and no it isn't racists, cause me as a black women, loved every single minute of it, it was a great action movie. Yee, so was Troy, damn sometimes girlslike to see some good eye candy, and so what, they were kicking ass, it was amazing, people need to just watch the moveis, cause trust me there are ones that are actually racists and homophobic, but we are not going to get into that!!!

Why would anyone pick on a "movie" fantasy when there's reality like Congress and all these religious nuts out there? The only complaint I had about Gerard in this movie was his Scots accent...but I got over that.

I haven't seen 300 and probably won't because that's not my personal taste. However, I must say that Mr. Butler's performance in the Phantom of the Opera was a pleasant surprise. I'm a trained violinist and I was impressed by his range and musicality for someone with virtually no training or professional experience. I would definitely enjoy seeing him in a musical/theatre role again. Either that or something that really showcases his versatility. I believe he could pull off an angst ridden composer battling a mental illness or something like that. Oh and just for the record, he is one hot bastard.

An extremely talented actor, especially in POTO. Have seen most of his movies and think someday he'll be up for an Oscar. But no matter what movies he makes, he's one "hunka-hunka-burnin' love! Go, Gerry!

I LOVE GERARD BUTLER! I am a die hard fan/part time stalker of this man. 300 was excellent. Who cares if it was historically accurate? Take it for what it is - a wee bit of escapism.
